To the Thief Who Stole....

Golden Girls,
my feeling of safety,
Full House,
my sanity when I am having a sick day,
the weather channel,
the 5am news,
and one of the few things valuable I have to my name.

So, I packed up all of my things from my dorm before I left. Including $220, DVD player, TV, Computer, all of my clothes, a lamp, a table.... pretty much everything because I didn't want to miss having something in the month between semesters.

Last night I came home about 10pm. I gathered the essentials out of my car and "locked" the doors. Well, at 5:10 this morning when I went out to start it, the back door was open. I didn't think anything of it because I had a suitcase in one hand and a laundry basket in the other the night before. I figured didn't get the door shut so it just didn't lock. At 5:10pm, I went to get the rest of my stuff out of my car; this includes DVD player, television and the $220. BUT NO. I only recovered 2 of the 3 items listed above.

Some @#$hole stole my television!!! I looked all over the car for it... (like I could actually lose a TV). It just didn't make sense. They left everything else! Even the remote controls! I am beyond angry. I have nothing. I barely own anything. I HATE that nothing is safe. I never once thought that people I live beside would be horrible, rotten thieves.

I’d like to say that it is nothing about the TV… but I love that TV. It was the perfect size for my bedroom at home and for my dorm room at college. It was clear and it had all the little extra stuffs that come with new televisions. I love to watch TV. The History Channel and HGTV are my favorites!

But seriously, I feel so uncomfortable and violated. A TV is one thing but, what if someone had been in my car when I started it this morning? I could have driven to work with a stowaway?!
I am so angry. I work so hard to try to earn things, yeah, the TV was a gift but now after Christmas, I’ll be saving to replace a television instead of putting it in savings for an even later date.

Can you believe that? It is Christmas time! People are so greedy. Near Christmas, the thieves come out. We have become such a materialistic society that we resort to stealing when we can’t afford little Suzy a Christmas present. According the NY Times, bank robberies are at the highest within a week of Christmas. Western Carolina students can attest to this because of the robbery at SECU this past Wednesday. Are we that desperate? Is money that important that we detest all morals for the sake of having a few dollars? I am just livid.

To the thief: I hope you enjoy that TV or I hope your kid enjoys it. (I’ll be leaving the remote outside tonight for you with a very endearing note.) And if you sold it off for drugs, I hope you stay high for a month. I hope you enjoy that TV as much as I did because it will be the LAST thing you take from me or my family.
